GBM Demolition are currently working through an extensive demolition project covering an expanse of around 40 acres in Kings Lynn on the site of the old Campbells Soup Factory which has been purchased by Tesco for future development.
The structures are many and varied in their systems of construction, from traditional reinforced concrete two storey offices to long span steel framed warehouses with extensive asbestos cement sheet cladding. The iconic water tower that can be seen from so much of the town, has been the cause of much political discussion with opinion divided as to whether it should be kept as a local landmark, however, those on the side of removal appear to have won the day.
Most areas of the factory had significant quantities of asbestos containing materials, from lowest parts of the basement to highest floor of the water tower. These are in the process of removal with a few areas left to clear.
